| I decided to make a small stop to Wallace Lake Dam one afternoon after visiting a few different places, mostly because I had never been there. I also wanted to see if there was any way to see the old house that is told of in The Goat Woman legend. Unfortunately, the bridge that used to connect you to the other side of the dam has either been torn down, or was washed away. Either way, I don't see another way to cross so it seems as though the Goat Woman will have to remain what it is, only a story. The dam was actually quite interesting. I didn't realize until i really looked at it that there is a large mural of a swamp scene painted onto the wall of the dam. There are also a few faded paintings on the sides as well, but a lot of it is covered by a bunch of fantastic graffitti. Words like "Jimi Hendrix" and a peace sign seem to tie everything together that much more. There are also these square cement blocks that control overspill I think, that are painted as well, but I can't really tell what it is now or used to be. All in all, a great place to go and relax on a nice day, and from the looks of it while I was there, it's not a bad spot to fish either. |
